United States Congressman Bill Posey

The Reality Check Community Champion Award came about after Larry Lawton the President of the Reality Check Program received an award called the “Hometown Hero Award” presented by Riverside Bank. The award recognized Mr. Lawton for his work with helping “at-risk” teens and young adults.

Mr. Lawton received an award for doing what he loves to do, helping people. Larry is very appreciative of the award and wanted to encourage people to give back in all situations, not just from doing their job.

Larry explained to a group of people that there is no better feeling in the world than helping someone. The success of the Reality Check Program comes from Larry sharing his experiences and showing people that no matter how bad a person was, they can change, and encouraging others to pass on the information.

361a“A person changes when they feel love, acceptance and a sense of community. The community policing program was founded on that premise and the whole Reality Check Program is based on education, understanding, compassion, love and a sense of community”, said Lawton.

If you know someone who is a Community Champion and want to nominate them, you can (Click Here) for the nomination form.  Please DO NOT tell the person you are nominating as we sometimes surprise the person.

The recipient of this coveted award sponsored by the Reality Check Program and presented by a public figure, gets the recognition they deserve and a beautiful plaque presented at a public event.
