Larry Lawton (born Lawrence Lawton, October 3, 1961) is an author, motivational speaker, TV personality, honorary police officer and the Founder and President of the Reality Check Program, Jewelry Robbery Prevention and non-profit organization – the Reality Check Foundation. He is a former career criminal, known once as the biggest jewel robber in the United States.
Larry’s life story is depicted in the book “Gangster Redemption” which was co-written with 8 time NY Times bestselling author Peter Golenbock.
Born and raised in the Bronx and Brooklyn NY, Larry started his criminal career at twelve years old and tried to straighten out and went into the US Coast Guard at seventeen, but after being injured in the Barring sea, Larry was retired at twenty-six years old and subsequently made some very bad choices which led him back to organized crime. Larry ran his own crew in south Florida and went on a seven year crime spree robbing jewelry stores up and down the east coast of the United States of fifteen to eighteen million dollars. Larry was caught in 1996 and sent to federal prison under the RICO Act for four, twelve year sentences to run concurrent. Larry studied to be a paralegal and working pro se won a major case in the United States Supreme Court.
Upon Larry’s release in 2007 he started the Reality Check Program to help prevent young people from going down the path he did. In 2008 Larry started working with law enforcement giving them the insight and knowledge of a professional criminal.
In August of 2013, Larry was the first ex-con in the United States to be sworn in as an honorary police officer in the city of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri. In November 2013, Larry was recognized on the floor of the United States Congress for his work with helping young people and law enforcement.
Larry regularly appears on national TV. ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, MSNBC, CNN and major radio shows discussing crime, crime prevention and helping young people. Larry’s national TV appearances cross all political spectrum’s from the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central to The Huckabee Show on FOX News. Larry hosts a monthly TV show on Brighthouse Networks in central Florida called Lawton’s Law.
